Our Perspective Featured in Consumer Reports — and Some Reflections

Reflections on shared values, insurance consumer protection, and the ongoing work of closing insurance blind spots.

Recently, I had the honor of being featured in Consumer Reports, a publication I greatly respect for its mission to protect consumers. Reporter Lisa L. Gill reached out after discovering my article, Understanding Zero-Paid Homeowners Insurance Claims, and invited me to share insight for her story on homeowners insurance.

Consumer Reports has long stood for fairness, clarity, and accountability—values that resonate deeply with our mission at Green Brook Insurance. Their Homeowners Insurance Bill of Rights calls for greater homeowners insurance transparency and protection for homeowners. These principles align perfectly with our belief that insurance is not just about meeting a legal requirement, but about protecting people’s wealth, income, and dignity.

Being featured in this piece means a lot to me personally because it reflects what we strive to do every day—identify vulnerabilities before they become financial pain points. The truth is, Green Brook’s vision of a society rid of insurance-related pain is aspirational. We’ve seen many successes, but true progress in insurance planning takes partnership—it happens when we work together to stay informed, engaged, and proactive about your coverage.

As Gill has highlighted in some of her work, independent insurance agencies like ours hold allegiance to the client—not the carrier. She encouraged me to continue identifying and explaining blind spots in the modern insurance experience, and I plan to do just that.

I encourage my clients to look out for their Annual Policy Review correspondence from ClientCare@GreenBrookIG.com, because these reviews are part of a healthy rhythm for fostering financial security. I also encourage everyone to keep a healthy mix of educational reading—sources like Consumer Reports can help uncover blind spots in many areas of life, from home insurance to health and safety. The more we learn, the stronger and more secure we become.

I’m grateful to Gill and the Consumer Reports team for the opportunity to contribute, and grateful to our Green Brook clients who inspire our ongoing commitment to Knowledge, Options, and Care.

Together, we want to help you Take Hold of Your Tomorrow.
